Mallard Duck

The Mallard is one of the most widespread and recognizable duck species in the world. Found in wetlands, lakes, and rivers across Europe, Asia, and North America, these adaptable birds thrive in both natural and urban environments. Male Mallards are known for their iridescent green heads, while females sport mottled brown plumage for camouflage.

Mallards are omnivorous, feeding on aquatic plants, insects, and small fish. Their diet varies depending on the season and availability of food. These ducks are strong fliers and migratory in colder regions, often traveling thousands of miles to reach their wintering grounds.

Mallards play a critical role in their ecosystems by controlling insect populations and spreading plant seeds. However, habitat loss and pollution pose challenges to their survival. Conservation efforts, including wetland restoration and protection, help maintain healthy populations of this iconic species.
