The koala is an iconic marsupial native to Australia, known for its adorable appearance and unique lifestyle. Koalas spend most of their lives in eucalyptus trees, feeding exclusively on their leaves. These leaves are low in nutrients and high in toxins, which is why koalas have specialized digestive systems and spend up to 20 hours a day resting to conserve energy.
Koalas are solitary animals, with each individual maintaining its own territory. During the breeding season, males emit loud bellows to attract mates and assert dominance.
Despite their popularity, koalas face significant threats from habitat destruction, bushfires, and disease, particularly chlamydia. Conservation efforts focus on protecting eucalyptus forests and rehabilitating injured and orphaned koalas to ensure their survival.
